We had Wilder's second birthday party on Sunday. The theme was based on the Richard Scarry book Cars and Trucks and Things that Go because we love that book so much that we're already on our second copy in a year (we loved the first one to death apparently) and because Wilder is completely obsessed with anything with wheels.
I think the little characters in the book are so funny and cute and I had fun using them all over the invites and decorations.

I used our copy of Cars and Trucks and Things that Go
as a guest book and asked everyone to leave Wilder a little
birthday note on the first page
Party favors for the adults were lemon cookies (the same
kind I made for his party last year) cut out into trains,
For the kids we had cookies, transportation stickers, mini
Cars and Trucks and Things that Go ABC board books, and
each bag had one of the transportation cookie cutters attached
We had the party at our house and only invited close family and five of Wilder's little friends so it would be really lowkey and not overwhelming for the birthday boy. Well it turned out to be even more lowkey than I planned because four out of five of his buddies ended up not being able to come -- two had a stomach virus, one had a bad cold, and the other didn't make it back in time from a Thanksgiving trip out of state. I was so upset at first because I kept thinking how sad his party would be without friends, but then I realized that he probably couldn't care less and it might even be for the best because we wouldn't have to worry about sharing-related meltdowns. It all worked out fine in the end. The weather turned out so pretty and not too chilly and Wilder had so much fun having all those loved ones come to his house to see him.

Wilder loved seeing everyone and being the center of attention, not to mention Uncle William brought his Jeep and gave Jeep rides all over the property. Wilder even got to sit in his lap and steer once they were out in the open field and he thought that was totally awesome.
Is everyone buckled up back there?
It was so special to me to have my dad's old Jeep
there. I could feel him looking down on us. Every
year I'm going to try to do something to incorporate
him into the party.
"Driving" the Jeep ;)
After checking out the Jeep, we went inside to eat some cake and ice cream. Y'all, I have to brag on Paul. After much discussion over the last few weeks we decided that he would do the cake. We were both pretty nervous about it but we knew what we wanted and believed that he was creative and capable enough to pull it off. And he totally did. We used a recipe my friend, Rachel, had given me last year and the cake was sooo moist and delicious and Paul did an AMAZING job decorating it! It turned out so so cute and Wilder loved it.
Go Paul!

Love these two dudes so much
Wilder loved the cake and especially loved that he
could take his car "mudding" in it, haha :) He ended
up eating most of the cake with the car as a utensil.
We originally weren't planning on opening presents at the party because of the chaos that can ensue with kids this age, but since there were no other kids there by that time (Mason had already left), we decided to go for it. Wilder loved ripping into all the gifts, especially after he discovered how funny it was to fling the tissue paper out of the bags at his mama ;) He was so sweet saying thank you to each person and was so excited by everything, of course wanting to open and play with each gift as he unwrapped them.
Sweet boy saying thank you to someone :)

Then we went outside so William and Lauren could give him their gift -- his own mini Jeep. Oh. My. Word. He was so excited and immediately had to hop in and take it for a spin around the yard, with much steering help from Dada and Cuncle.

Couldn't be bothered to look up for a picture haha
Wilder ended the day playing with all his new trucks and tractors on the living room floor while we cleaned up. I'd say he had a pretty great birthday and felt very loved all day and that makes me so happy.
