Wilder is such a little character these days and keeps us constantly entertained with his antics and comments. I've kept a list on my phone of some of the funny things he has said and done in the last few months...
- Loves using words like: double, matches (as in "This matches this."), already, kind of, maybe, think so, actually, ersday (yesterday or the other day), sideways, upside down, probably.
- Loves using phrases like: Scuse me, Mama; Look ever'where! (as in "I looked everywhere for it!"); Kinda like it; That's weird!; Show sumfin (as in "I want to show you something."); and Hurt so bad!
- He is so good with his pleases, sorries, and thank-you's. Makes me so happy hearing him say thank-you without me prompting him.
- One sweet example of him saying thank-you... One night after bath he was sitting in my lap while I dried him off and he started inspecting my rings. I had told him in the past that Dada gave Mama her rings so he said, Dada give dese (these) to Mama. And I said, That's right! He then called out to Paul in the living room, Tank you, Dada, (for) giving Mama rings! So sweet! :)
- When we tell him it's time to stop doing something, he asks, One time? and when we say OK, one more time, he changes it to Two more times. Haha ;)
- We were driving back from Jackson one day and a song on the radio said, What do you want from me? I didn't think he was paying attention but apparently he was because he yelled out, Crackers!
- He loves to hear about Granddaddy and what all he liked to do. A few times when I've said that Granddaddy liked to play with Mama and Cuncle (Uncle William) when they were little, he has said, Wi-Wi play wif Granddaddy! Oh, it just breaks my heart. I so wish he could!
- He insists on calling cowboys, cowbells
- We were talking one day while I was getting him dressed and he said, Wilder grow up, be big man, ride motorcycle FAST! Lord help me when he does grow up!
- One afternoon we went outside to play and it was really overcast and he said it was So dreary!
- He loves to go to KidsPlay and always knows when we arrive. One day he started kicking his legs up and down in the carseat when we pulled in the parking lot and said, Wilder excited!
- While running errands one day I looked in the rear view mirror and saw Wilder in his carseat puffing out his chest and belly and pulling in his face to make a double chin. I asked what he was doing and he said, Being fat man!
- One morning he was in "a mood" and kept hitting Rider. I said, Wilder, are you going to have to go to time-out? and he said, No, Mama, don't say that word!
- One weekend Paul hooked up his dump truck to his jeep for him to "tow" it and Wilder said, Dis gonna be fun!
- He is ALWAYS asking, What dis be? and What dis called?
- One rainy, cold afternoon he said, Go away, dreary! Go away, dreary!
- One day while playing on his train table, he held up two train engines and said, Dese brover (brother) trains!
- One afternoon I was asking what he wanted for a snack and he was too busy playing to answer me. I kept asking and then I watched as he brought four or five mini board books to the kitchen, opened the veggie drawer in the fridge, put them in, closed it, and walked away. The next time I asked what he wanted for a snack, he walked back in the kitchen, got one of the books out of the drawer, said, Books, and pretended to take a bite out of it. So silly!
- The guest room is usually closed up so Wilder can't get into all the stuff in there. Paul went in there looking for something the other day and Wilder followed him in and said, Dis room smell awful! Which it doesn't, by the way, it just smells different than the rest of the house since it's closed all the time!
- He loves to correct us if we don't say just the right thing. One morning I called out the door to Paul to Drive safe! and Wilder said, No, Mama, 'drive safely'! And the other night we were reading a poem about a cockroach and the illustration was of a lady who had jumped onto a stool when a cockroach ran by on the floor. I said, Look, Wilder, that lady jumped up on a chair when she saw the cockroach! and he said, No no, Mama, 'stool.' Haha, thanks, kid. ;)
- We love to read poetry together at night before bed so I helped him memorize the cutest little poem. It's called Wasps, by Dorothy Aldis and it says, Wasps like coffee, syrup, tea, Coca-Cola, butter, me! I had to bribe him with a marshmallow but I finally got him to recite it for the camera...
- I've also been doing little interviews with him periodically. Here is one of the best ones, since he's usually too busy to cooperate for long.
